Outstanding Web Site Award

The Portsmouth Public Library recently won the "Outstanding Web Site 2008" award for libraries serving a population of 50-100,000 from the Virginia Public Library Director's Association!  The award was presented to the Library Director, Susan Burton, at the annual spring meeting in April.  Congratulations PPL!

May is....Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, Mental Health Awareness Month, and Older Americans Month. Plus, Cinco de Mayo is celebrated May 5th, the Friends of the Portsmouth Library's book sale is May 10th, and don't forget Mother's Day on May 11th!

Join the new Kids Book Club - "Reading is Magic"!  Held on Saturdays, May 3rd-24th @ 1:30 PM, the club is for 1st-3rd graders who can read, but want to read better.  Join us for books, games, and art as we improve reading skills while having fun. Register online or by calling the Children's Department @ 393-8501.

We want young people, ages 5 through 13, to participate in our "Reading Around Portsmouth Photo Contest!" to celebrate Children's Book Week.  Winning photos will be posted on our website, and all entries will be on display at the Main Library from May 12-18th.  Permission slips required.  Read more about how to enter here...

 Join us for Babygarten at the Main Library, a fun, exciting, and informational program for infants (birth to 18 months) and their parents or caregivers.  Classes held on Saturdays through May 17th at 11:00 AM.  Register online, at the Main Library Children's Department or call 393-8501.
