American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) - The most important part of this site is "Who's Certified" (registration required) which identifies if a doctor is certified by an approved medical specialty board in the United States. Can be more up-to-date than the print version, the "Directory of Board Certified Medical Specialists." Includes a list of the boards, with links where available; a Certified Doctor Locator (listing only those doctors who subscribe to the service); and information about the ABMS.

AMA Physician Select - From the American Medical Association. Find a doctor online.

American Cancer Society - This site highlights recent research, statistics, publications, and prevention. Includes survivor stories, and information about support for cancer patients and their families. Contains material available in Spanish, Chinese, and Vietnamese. Searchable.

Ask Me 3 - Ask Me 3 is a patient education program designed to promote communication between health care providers and patients in order to improve health outcomes. The program encourages patients to understand the answers to three questions.
1. What is my main problem?
2. What do I need to do?
3. Why is it important for me to do this?

CancerX - Dedicated to providing accurate information and products to help mankind, preserve and foster human life.

DocFinder - is the only combined database of all licensing jurisdictions that has its direct source of data from and controlled by state licensing boards and is free of charge to the public.

Drugs.com - Pill Identifier and information on prescription drugs/ over the counter medicines & natural products.

Herbs, Botanicals & Other Products - This information resource, presented by our Integrative Medicine Service, provides evidence-based information about herbs, botanicals, supplements, and more.

The Health On the Net Foundation - (HON) promotes and guides the deployment of useful and reliable online health information, and its appropriate and efficient use. Created in 1995, HON is a non-profit, non-governmental organization, accredited to the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations.

Hospital Compare - This tool from U.S. Department of Health and Human Services provides you with information on how well the hospitals care for all their adult patients with certain conditions or procedures. This information will help you compare the quality of care hospitals provide. Talk to your doctor about this information to help you, your family and your friends make your best hospital care decisions.

The Heimlich Maneuver - Features specific Heimlich maneuver instructions for choking, drowning, and asthma, and stories of people whose lives have been saved by the procedure. From the institute founded by Henry Heimlich, inventor of the Heimlich maneuver.

Medical Library Association - For Health Consumers: “Top Ten” Most Useful Websites. Selected by The Medical Library Association, sites include: cancer.gov, kidshealth.org, familydoctor.org etc.

MedlinePlus - A service of the US National Library of Medicine and the National Institutes of Health.  Health topics, drug information, medical encyclopedia, dictionary, directories, news and more.

MedlinePlus: Evaluating Internet Health Information: A Tutorial From the National Library of Medicine - "This tutorial teaches you how to evaluate the health information that you find on the Web. It is about 16 minutes long." It walks consumers through the process of determining who is behind a website (such as a physician or a drug company), separating noncommercial and commercial content (such as advertising), checking to make sure the site is current, and more. From the National Library of Medicine (NLM) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

MyPyramid.gov - Your access point for the USDA food guidance system. This site contains the latest news, background information, and resources about the food guidance system. You can even personalize your own plan to see your individual nutritional needs.

National Council Against Health Fraud - NCAHF is a private nonprofit, voluntary health agency that focuses upon health misinformation, fraud, and quackery as public health problems.

The Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America - (PhRMA) represents the country’s leading pharmaceutical research and biotechnology companies, which are devoted to inventing medicines that allow patients to live longer, healthier, and more productive lives.) Site also includes “Patient Prescription Assistance Programs”.

PharmacyChecker.com was founded by a medical doctor in 2003 to help consumers safely save money on medication. It independently checks the credentials of online pharmacies and lets you easily compare drug prices. Its online pharmacy verification program is the largest and most accepted - referenced by AARP Magazine, Smart Money, and Consumer Reports.

PubMed - PubMed was designed to provide access to citations from biomedical literature. LinkOut provides access to full-text articles at journal Web sites and other related Web resources.

Quackwatch.org -  A nonprofit corporation whose purpose is to combat health-related frauds, myths, fads, and fallacies.

Revolution Health - RevolutionHealth.com provides information, inspiration and tools to help you take control of your health and improve your life. Find Doctors and Hospitals, Symptom checker  .

ToxTown - Need information about chemicals then start here, the information is provided from the TOXNET and MedlinePlus resources of the National Library of Medicine, as well as other authoritative sources.

Virginia 211 - 2-1-1 is an easy to remember phone # and website connecting people with free information on available community services. When you dial 2-1-1, a trained professional listens to your situation and suggests sources of help using one of the largest databases of health and human services in Virginia.

Virginia Board of Medicine Doctors Profiles - "This site contains information on over 33,000 Doctors of Medicine, Osteopathic Medicine, and Podiatry either currently or previously licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia."

Virginia Department of Health Professions - Our mission is to ensure safe and competent patient care by licensing health professionals, enforcing standards of practice, and providing information to health care practitioners and the public.

Virginia Health Information Project - "...a unique non-profit effort to give Virginians an easy-to-use source for reliable and unbiased health information."

Vitals - Lists the number of times a doctor has performed a procedure. Search by doctors name and location.

World's Healthiest Foods - Learn how to eat healthy, cook healthy, and feel great by learning what the healthiest foods are and how to prepare them.  Answer a short questionnaire, and The Food Advisor assesses your diet and shows where you may have deficiencies.  This website is free and provided by a non-profit group not influenced by commercial interests.
