African American History - From LII, a large list of links.  Great place to start.

American Memory Project - From the Library of Congress, a collection of written and spoken words, sound recordings, still and moving images, prints, maps, and sheet music that document the American experience.

American President: An Online Reference Resource - Collection of material about U.S. presidents, including "essays about each President and their lives before, during, and after their presidential terms. It additionally provides information about the First Lady and cabinet officials of each administration." From the Miller Center of Public Affairs at the University of Virginia.

American Studies at the University of Virginia - Includes the "Yellow Pages Directory,  a selective, annotated directory of resources for American Studies", a large collection of Cultural Maps, and American Art.

Ancient World Web - This site presents annotated lists, gathered into broad categories, of Web sites that document medieval - and older - history, theory, and scholarship. With a few exceptions, coverage stops at 1000 A.D. Site features include a news Web log and an invitation to suggest additions and changes. The Ask Dr. Dig page archives questions and answers about archaeology. Searchable.

Documenting the American South - "A digital publishing initiative that provides Internet access to texts, images, and audio files related to Southern history, literature, and culture from the colonial period through the first decades of the 20th century. Currently DocSouth includes seven thematic collections of books, diaries, posters, artifacts, letters, oral history interviews, and songs. From the University Library of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

History Channel - Find resources on historical subjects, what happened on a specific day in time, show schedules, and more.

HyperHistory Online - "HyperHistory is an expanding scientific project presenting 3,000 years of world history with an interactive combination of synchronoptic lifelines, timelines, and maps."

LII's History Links - Great site with History links broken down by subject.  Lots of information here.

Timelines of History - This site delivers on its promise to provide timelines of world history, starting with the Big Bang and up to the present. Each entry provides a bibliographical record, with an explanation of abbreviations under References. Browse by spans of years or specific dates, country, states and a few U.S. cities, or subject. Searchable.
