Main Library - Tuesdays @ 10:30 a.m. All ages welcome. Programs are designed for 3-5 year olds. Open to families and home daycares with 8 children or less. Larger groups must call to register for a special session.

Churchland Branch - Thursdays @ 10:30AM. Ages 3-5. Larger groups call for a special session.

Manor Branch - Thursdays @ 10:30AM. Ages 3-5. Groups over 10, please call 465-2916.

Cradock Branch - Thursdays @ 10:30 a.m. Ages 3-5.

Two-Time - A program specially designed for children between the ages of 18 months and 3 years.  The program will include a story time followed by fun activities that will help your child learn pre-literacy skills that are so important when he or she reaches school age.  Held on Saturdays @ 11:00 AM.  See the list of dates & locations and register online here...

We want young people, ages 5 through 13, to participate in our "Reading Around Portsmouth Photo Contest!" to celebrate Children's Book Week.  Winning photos will be posted on our website, and all entries will be on display at the Main Library from May 12-18th.  Permission slips required.  Read more about how to enter here...

Calling all Teens..! Come to Teen Game Night at the Churchland Branch Library, held every 3rd Tuesday @ 6:30PM.  Join us for lively discussion, games, snacks and loads of fun.  Mark your calendars and tell your friends to come too!

Teens!  Think you've got a cool name for the Teen area @ the new Churchland Branch Library? Patrons from 12-17 years old can enter their Clever, Cute, Silly or Awesome name idea, and if your suggestion is chosen as the winner, you get to cut the ribbon to the new Teen area of the Churchland Branch Library on opening day!

Did you know that National Library Week is April 13th through 19th? Come to the Main Library's Children's section and play our name the Fairytale game during National Library Week April 13th-19th.   

Free Literacy Programs for Organizations.  We come to you! "Every Child Ready to Read @ Your Library" and "Motheread/Fatheread" are programs designed to help parents/caregivers prepare their children for school and/or improve their reading skills to help their children read better. The Friends of the Portsmouth Public Library's "Books By The Inch" Monthly Book Sale will be held April 12th from 10-4 (open to the public). Preview for members only is April 11th from 3-6 pm. Membership to the Friends of the Portsmouth Public Library is available onsite.
